New School Year

Tips to Tame the Tension

Many emotions pop-up for both parents and students when anticipating the start of a new school year. From the first day of Kindergarten to the first day of the Senior year, this time of transition brings about a lot of change and that can mean uneasy emotions.

TOP TIPS TO TAME THE TENSION

  • PRAYER: Taking time as a family to bring the new school year before the LORD. Encouraging your child(ren) to share their anxieties with the LORD. Pray for the teachers and administrative at their school.

  • MORNING & BEDTIME ROUTINES: Prepare for the school-year schedule by implementing the new wake and sleep times at least 2-3 days before the first day of school.

  • PLAY DATES: If able, provide opportunities for your child to connect with classmates through the summer and after school starts; this will help them feel more comfortable when away from home.

  • OPEN COMMUNICATION: Present an interested, open heart so your kiddo(s) know they can share their fears, anxieties, concerns, and excitement about the start of the school year.

  • REACH OUT: Many families feel the tension of transitioning back to school. Know you aren’t alone and connect with other parents/guardians in your community if you need support, chances are, they might too!
