Here are some fun ways to beat the heat as summer begins to wind down (or drags on) and school begins.

Why a book club?

Reading together provides an amazing opportunity for families to grow closer while also building skills in children (big & small!). Life gets busy and we can quickly miss out on seemingly small moments that actually create deep bonds within the household. Sharing a story together is one of those small moments. Younger children can learn about shapes, colors, relationships, and begin learning how language works. Older kids grow in comprehension and reflective skills to eventually help them navigate life. Just as important is the time spent together— building lasting memories of comfort and knowing that they are important enough for YOU to spend time with. Those skills and connection are building blocks for how the child(ren) in your life will ultimately relate to our Father in Heaven.

How it works:

  1. The books!
Each month DBKids will post a recommended read for your family. We have carefully selected engaging picture books with Christ and God as the centerpiece. The suggested book can be borrowed from a library, found online as an audiobook or video read aloud, or purchased to add to your home library.

  2. The guides!
DBKids will post digital guides and have printed booklets available for your convenience. The monthly guide will tell you why we chose the book, what we like about it, and provide age appropriate talking points to help your family walk through the book. An additional, “Go Deeper,” section offers extension activities to dive into God’s word to learn more about His nature and character.

  3. Meetings!
There are none! We consider this a book club in the sense of a monthly program for your family to experience. Our goal is to equip the church body with flexible tools to develop as shepherds in the home, bringing Jesus into the simplest of moments without creating scheduling burdens. Feel free to share the guides with friends and family so they can benefit, too!

  4. Feedback!
We would love to hear your thoughts about the program. Email kristine@dbcc.com to let us know what your family thinks about the books and/or guides.
